Optimize Your Closet Organizer Space

Some closet organizers may have high ceilings with a lot of unreachable space. To utilize that space you can start by taking your closet organizing system to the ceiling and store less frequently used items.

NOTE: You may need a step stool to access those items as they will not be easily accessible.

Another option taking advantage of your high ceilings by using a pull down wardrobe lift, this will maximize your clothing space. A wardrobe lift is a closet rod attached to a type of hinge with a long pull handle that allows you to pull your clothing down to your level for accessibility. You may also need a step stool to access this clothing. 

NOTE: For this option you will need to have enough space to allow the rods to pull down.

How To Clean Your Closet Organizers

For natural wood, melamine and MDF closet organizers you can use wood furniture polish or spray along with a feather duster. This will keep your system clean and dust free.  You can also try a light damp cloth, be sure to follow with a dry cloth.

Measure Your Closet Organizer

When you are measuring your closet organizers first draw the layout on sheet of paper then label each wall from left to right (A, B, C, and so on). Then measure each section (wall) using a tape measure. Write down the dimensions on your drawing. Next measure the following:

• Ceiling height
• Base board height (base molding) and depth
• Door frame (outside to outside dimensions. Notate which direction your door swings or slides)
• Any obstructions (access panels, light switches, windows, vents, attics, crawl spaces, plumbing, ect.) Make sure you measure the full dimensions of each obstruction, then measure how far away from the end of one wall to the beginning of the obstruction.  Do the same for the other side and from the ground up to the ceiling down.

Tip: Double check all measurements. Sometimes it’s helpful to have someone other than yourself to re-measure.

Taking Inventory

Before you begin designing your closet organizers, make sure you take an inventory of your clothing. What do you have more of? Long hang which is for full length dresses. Medium hang for short dresses and pants hung long or short double hang which is for everything else.
