Pantry Organization
We understand that not everyone has the same taste or budget. Some desire a professional look, as others love the creative aspect of the DIY (Do-it-yourself) options. In our articles, we like to represent both sides of the coin to help you make the best choice for your needs. Happy decorating!
One of the hardest rooms in the house to organize is the pantry. There are so many little items that are easily pushed to the back of the cupboard and when you find them again, they have expired. Sound familiar? So where do you start? This may seem like a daunting and overwhelming task but honestly, the hardest part is getting started, so lets dive right on in!
Step 1: Start by removing everything in your pantry, and wipe down the cupboards completely. This will allow you to start with a clean slate.
Step 2: Go through all your food and separate into three piles; one for items to keep, one for items to discard and last, items that have not expired but no one needs or likes. These items you can donate to your local food bank.
Step 3: Once you have narrowed down your pantry items, wipe down the items you are keeping, and arrange them by their expiration date. Arrange older items first and the newer items behind whereas to best utilizes your inventory effectively.
Step 4: You also want to make sure that all the food is visible. Little items like cans, spices and small packets are best if stored in pantry drawers or baskets. If you are looking for can storage, tilt shelves or a Lazy Susan work best. There are also great spice rack options that make it quick and easy to grab the desired spice while cooking.
Step 5: Once you have arranged your pantry to your liking, a suggestion would be to create labels so that you know exactly where things are. This also makes it handy for others in the house to access pantry goods.
All four steps can be executed on any budget. Rev-a-Shelf has spice racks and pull-out door organization that gives your pantry a crisp, polished look (images featured above.) However, if you are looking for an inexpensive, DIY option for organizing your pantry you can buy plastic bin or baskets at Dollar Tree as well as drawer organizers and inserts.
